Civil War Regiment
29th Regiment of Colored Troops

The 29th Regiment of Colored Troops was organized in Fair Haven, Connecticut and mustered in on March 8, 1864. The unit left Connecticut for Annapolis, Maryland on March 19 and moved on to Beaufort, Carolina in April. The regiment remained in Beaufort until August when they were sent to Virginia where they fought in siege operations against Petersburg and Richmond. The 29th was the first Infantry Regiment to enter the city of Richmond. The regiment mustered out in New Orleans on October 24, 1865 and were honorably discharged at New Haven on November 25, 1865.
